A school executive will design structures and processes that result in community engagement, support, and ownership. Acknowledging that schools no longer reflect but in fact build community, the leader proactively creates with staff opportunities for parents, community and business representatives to participate as “stockholders” in the school such that continued investments of resources and good will are not left to chance.
The artifacts provided below will demonstrate proficiency towards the North Carolina School Executive Standards.
Artifacts represent residencies at two schools in Wilson County: Elm City Elementary and Wells Elementary.

Element VIa. Parent and Community Involvement and Outreach: The school executive designs structures and processes which result in parent and community engagement, support and ownership for the school.
In order to create more of a parent and community engagement in regards to volunteering, I created a Parent Volunteer Form that was sent home with Elm City Elementary students to elicit help with student academics.
Class Dojo is our primary communication tool with parents at Wells Elementary; this program allows to share information with parents, as well as get support for upcoming events and initiatives. Provided is a school post that I wrote to inform parents about the process of our mid-year benchmark testing.
At Wells Elementary, we involve the students in events in order to get more parents to participate. We held a PTO Holiday Concert where our third and fourth grade chorus sang holiday songs for the parents and community. Additional information about the Wells PTO was shared at this time in order to foster parent engagement. I was introduced as the assistant principal to the school community during this event, as well as provide supervision as groups transitioned before and after performances.

Element VIb. Federal, State and District Mandates: The school executive designs protocols and processes in order to comply with federal, state and district mandates.
To meet the requirements of the state mandated Read to Achieve 3rd grade portfolios, I created a spreadsheet for the teachers at Wells Elementary to use. The teachers would input how many portfolio passages they needed for each standard and I would make the copies in order to keep testing materials secure.
Wilson County Schools uses the Case 21 program for benchmark assessment purposes. I had to comply with district deadlines so I created a mid-year Case 21 benchmark schedule. I also had to compile all student accommodations and communicate these with the test administers in order to follow state mandates for accommodations.
