The school executive will build systems and relationships that utilize the staff’s diversity, encourage constructive ideological conflict in order to leverage staff expertise, power and influence to realize the school’s vision for success. The executive will also creatively employ an awareness of staff members’ professional needs, issues, and interests to build social cohesion and to facilitate distributed governance and shared decision-making.
The artifacts provided below will demonstrate proficiency towards the North Carolina School Executive Standards. Artifacts represent residencies at two schools in Wilson County: Elm City Elementary and Wells Elementary.
School Executive Micro-political Leadership: The school executive develops systems and relationships to leverage staff expertise and influence in order to influence the school's identity, culture and performance.
Barton College pairs with Wells Elementary in the Spring to bring College of Education students over to examine classroom management styles, teaching styles, types of engagement, the use of technology, and other practices they had been learning about. I helped create the Barton Tour Schedule the students would use for the visit. This visit is micro-political due to the relationship this builds between Barton College's students and our school and the influence it could potentially have for teacher recruitment and volunteering.
I participated in the 2018 Wilson County Schools job fair. I had the opportunity to interview candidates, highlight the features of Wells Elementary, and walked through the process of offering a contingency plan. This micro-political aspect of this event is that it provided an opportunity for me to have an impact on Wells Elementary 's identity and culture by recruiting professionals that will match our school's needs.
At the beginning of the year, I created a Staff Information Google form to learn about the staff of Elm City Elementary. The responses from the survey were used for an assignment, but I also used the responses to leverage staff expertise in regards to school assignments and activities based on the information they provided. The survey was also used to build relationships with the Elm City Staff.
